Abstract

The purpose of this study was to reveal the effects of good quality protein on blood proteins, plasma total lipid, weight loss and number of recovery days. The subjects of the study was consisted o f 12 patients with second and third degrees öf bums <18 - 70 % bums) in Hacettepe University Burn Clinic. Egg contains good quality protein for human body so, it vvas used as a protein source in this study. The results at the study may be summarized as below; Ingestion of egg protein increased serum total protein while no change was observed in total lipid value. The weight loss in subjects during egg protein feeding period was found to be less than the control group. In the experiment the number of patients were insufficient so the curative period was not effected. It will be concluded that the feeding of burned patients with juicy and easy to eat foods containing egg protein in accordance with their energy and protein needs and quantity of body water loss, will help in the recovery.
