The Importance Of Nutrıtıonal Educatıon Of Mothers and Useıng Of Ors For Controlıng Dıarrhoea

This survey had been conducted on 800 children under the 5 years of age living in low socioeconomical level region and were monitoring by a Health Unit of Ankara Municipality. There was 6.1% and 6.9% PEM cases for height and weight and 11.3% (90 children)of diarrhoea were determined. During that period main causes of diarrhoea had been evaluated in relation to demographic and social statues. Among the mothers 98.9% of them gave water, 54.4% continued breast feeding, 11.1% and 6.7% of mothers gave ORS prepared in home conditions and ready to use ORS packets to the child with diarrhoea. In generally suitable foods like yoğurt (42.2%), potatoes (24.4%) and fruit juice (40.0%) were given also. Ninety children who had diarrhoea were divided into 3 groups. Home prepared ORS, ready to use ORS packets and ayran (yağurt and water half and half) with salt were given to the 1st 2nd and 3rd of each group. Although there was no significant differences between 3 groups (p> 0.05), rehydration was observed with 73.3 %, 83.3 % and 86.7% in the ist 2nd and 3nd group of children in 1-3 days respecdvely. Dehydration cases were also cured less than 4 hours with ayran (100.0%), ready to use ORS (82.4%) and home prepared ORS (76.9%). Children with diarrhoea were followed for 6 months. During 6 months 91.1% of the cases with diarrhoea, 66.6% of the cases with malnutrition and 77.0% of the cases with anemia was cured by nutririon education of mother.,
