Nutrıtıonal Status Of Adolescents Who Attended Summer Schools In Ankara

This survey was planned in order to find out the nutritional status of 1231 adolescents who attended five different summer schools in Ankara. According to the results, percent of male and female students aged 10-18 years old were 60.7 and 39.3, respectively. Basketball, swimming, voleyball-handball, football and tennis had been the favourite sport branches they had chosen. In spite of 43.4% of students, 38.7% of them were eating there main meals irregularly. The reasons of irregular eaters were lack of time and appetite. Generally, they had changed their way of eating after beginning the sportive activity. They expressed that milk, yogurt, cheese, fresh fruits and vegetables had been the foods they preferred to consume most; cereal products, sugar and fat were the ones which they avoided to eat. The average daily energy intake for boys were 2335 kkal and for girls 1903 kkal. It had been found that 44 .6 %, 29 .6 %, 34.1% and 30.5% of boys consumed insufficient doses of vitamin A, riboflavin, calcium and iron respectively. These inadequacies were seen throughout the girls with 45.9%, 30.0% 47.7% and 57.0% respectively. The results of the survey had showned that both boys and girls consumption of milk and y oğu rt were in low levels; on the contrary coke was the only drink they preferred.
