Prevalence of Hypertension in 30+ Years Old Subjects in Sivas/Ulaş District

Abstract

Prevalence of hypertension (HT) in 30+years old subjects was studied in l2 villages in rural Ulaş district. Out of 1061 subjects examined, 22.8% were found hvperterısive and 58.3% of these were newly diagnosed cases. Prevalence rates were lower in those, who were not obese, who were not smoking and not drinking alcohol but it was higher in the older subjects. Prevalences o f HT were similar in males and fenıales. No relationship was found between the p revalence o f HT and either the hardness o f water, or the type of fats used in cooking. Excluding the previously diagnosed cases, no relation was found also, with the daily salt intake.
