Determination of Nutritional Habits and Food Consumption of the Students Studying at University of Ankara, Faculty of Educational Sciences

Abstract

This study attempted to determine the nutrition knowledge, food habits and food consumption of the students studying at Ankara University Faculty of Educational Sciences. A total o f 153 students, 49 fe - males (32%) and 104 males (68%) participated in the study. Most of the students ( 72.2%) were between the ages of 20-24 years. According to their BMl, 23.5 % were undenveight, 10.5 % overweight, 0.6 % were obese and the rest were within the normal ranges. The percentages o f the students living in a dormitory or a house were 51.6 and 48.4 % respectively. Almost one forth of the students (24.2 %) were engaged in a sportive activity, 27.9 % were snıokiııg an average of 17-20 cigarettes a day, and 11.6 % were consuming alcohol once a week.The percentage of people having breakfast every morning werefound to be 55.6 %. The percentages of male and female students consuming milk-yogurt, egg and meat everyday were 27.9 %, 59.2, %38.5%, 40.8 %, 25.9 %, 34.7 % respectively.
