Nuitritional Habits and Dietaiy Intake of Atopicy Non Atopic Asthma and the Healthy Children

Abstract

This study was planned and applied to examine the nutritional habits, food consumption and frequency and physical activity betu’een the children with atopic, non atopic asthma and the healthy children. 58 subjects with atopic asthma, 50 subjects with non atopic asthma and 76 healthy individual were evaluated in this study. Food consumption o f all subjects was evaluated according to the age groups (7-9 years old fo r all sexes, 10-13 and 14-16 fo r males and females), which were adjusted fo r the individuals ' recommended daily allowances. No difference has been found between the groups fo r height, weight and physical activity (p>0.05). The increase in the number o f siblings, longer intake o f breast milk and the increase in the weaning age were found as risk factors fo r asthma (p<0.05). Healthy individuals adopting more pets than asthma patients while asthma patients were sharing their rooms with other individuals much more than the healthy subjects (p<0.05). In addition to these there were differences between the groups in the consumption o f some fatty acids, vitamins and minerals (p<0.0167). 33 foods (some vegetables, fruits, meat and milk products and prepared foods) o f 179 in the food frequency questionnaire also caused difference s within the groups (p<0.0167). Consequently, to be capable o f making more accurate public suggestions fo r this study, high sampled studies are needed to be done.
