The Nutritional Status of Primary School Children Living in Differcnt Socio-Economic Levels in Ankara-II

Abstract

The nutritional status of 9-11 years old school children and relationship betvveen nutrition and socio-economic status were investigated. The results of the survey showed that the consumption of energy was 1750-2000 kilocalories, protein 60-70 grams and fat 50 - 71 grams per day. Nutrition of children in school had provided the 15 % of their total daily requirements. The most important problem was found to be iron deficiency anemia (43.6 %). 22.5 % of the children had vveights beloıv the recommended standards and obesity was seen in 19.5 %. School achievement of children \vas 58 %. These parameters had relation with the nutritional status of the children.
