Turmeric: Evaluation in Terms of Health and Nutrition

Turmeric is a plant containing antioxidant properties, used for the prevention of public health. Turmeric is derived from Curcuma longa plant. With the main component of the plant curcumin’s polyphenolic properties, plant exhibits therapeutic potential in many chronic diseases that inflammation plays a major role. Also shows assisting effect in the prevention and treatment of various cancers. Curcumin’s protective effect was determined on neurodegenerative diseases such as Multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, as well as cognitive disorders like cognitive performance, verbal memory, Crohn’s disease, Helicobacter pylori infection, after the cadaveric renal transplantation and gallbladder function. Further and wider ranged studies are needed for a better understanding of the health effects of curcumin. Effects of curcumin on nutrition and health were evaluated in this review.
