Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the relationship betu’een osteoporosis and nutrition by bone mineral density (BM D) and bone mineral content (BMC) values in patients with distal subtotal gastrectomy operations. The study consisted of 10 patients with distal subtotal gastrectomy (Study Group) and 10 healty volunteers (Control Group), their mean age was 47 ± 3.57 years. BMD, BMC, antropometric values, biochemistry measurements, energy and nutritional consumption values \vere deternıined in each group. Mean weight, height, triceps skinfold thickness and body mass index (BM1) values in the study group were lower than control group (p<0.05). Serum calciıım (Ca), magnes'ıum (Mg) (p<0.05), phosphorııs (p<0.01) levels w er e lower in study group then Controls whilst ıtrine calcium(Ca) (p<0.01) and serum alkaline phosphatase (p<0.001) levels were higher in study group than control group. According to BMD and BMC values, 30% osteopenic, 30% osteoporotic and 40% normal values were found in study group.
