This study was performed in Gastroenterology Department of Gıilhane Military Medical Academy and Medical Faculty on 20 patients who had duodenal ulcer. A diet containing 1200 mg. calcium vvas given to the subjects daily and basal serum calcium and serum gastrin levels were determined in 5 days intervals. Serum calcium and serum gastrin measurements were performed by atomic absorbtion spectrophotometer and RIA respectively. It was determined that orally given calcium didn’t elevate serum calcium and serum gastrin levels significantly (p > 0.05). It was also determined that there was no any significant correlation between serum calcium and serum gastrin levels (p > 0.05). It vvas concluded that calcium was effective in acid secretion in parietal cells by stimulating acetyl choline and histamine, hence, decreasing amount of milk of excluding it in ulcer diets because of calcium content had no importance.
