Abstract

This study was carried out in the Obstelrics and Gynaecology Department of Ondokuz Mayıs University Medical Faculty to find out the relationship between food consumption and the average amount of breast milk. Data was collected from mothers during their pregnancy and lactation periods using a questionnaire about food consumption and measuring their milk production. In this study it was found that legumes and eggs consumed increased milk production significantly more than meat.No significant relationships were found between the daily consumption of energy, protein and fat and the amount of breast milk. It was found that the average amount of breast milk at delivery was 219 ml/day and after one month 573 ml/day.
