Abstract

This study \vas carried oııt in the three grossnıarkets (Beğendik, Gima, Yimpaş) o f Ankara. Iıı the study 126 mal es (42.0 %) and 174 fem a le s (58.0 %) a total o f 300 coıısumers were iııterviewed. 72% o f the cotısumers \vere bet\veen 21-39 years old and %58.9 o f them were high school and 27.7% o f them were university gradııates. 88.0% o f them w er e payiııg cash \vhile 9.7% were using credit card. Only 47.7% the consunıers pointed o ut that they prepare a grocery list before shoppitıg. The most inıportant determinant (95.3%) in choositıg the place fo r shoppitıg seenıs to be the variety o f the products. The other nvo determinaııts in buying foods were the price o f products and healthfulltıess (92%). In this study 72% o f the consumer s said that they read the Information on the package wheras 28% o f them said that they did not pay attention to the Information on the package.
