Food Consumption of Fasting Subjects During Ramadan and Ramadan Festival

Two hundered volunteer adults (74 tııales, 126 females) who fast during Ramadan were selected from four provinces. Their food consumptions were deternıined in Ramadan fasting and during Ramadan festival. During Ramadan fast the subjects consumed two meals whereas during the festival they consumed 2-3 meals and 1-4 stıacks. Due to excess dessert consumption, either lunch or dinııer were ıısually omitted during the festival. The most freqııently consumed foods in the dawn meal (cheese, olive, egg, sausage, tea) during Ramadan \vere consumed in breakfast during festival. Soup \vas essential in the sunset meal and the other foods folhnved soup. Foods consumed in the sunset meal during Ramadan were consumed in lunch and dinııer during festival. İn the festival dessert, tea, coffee and sugary foods were consumed in the stıacks. When daily eııergy and nutrieııt iııtakes \vere coıısidered calcium iııtake w as iıısııffıcient both in Ramadan and in festival. Iıı the festival ali ııutrient iııtakes except vitamin A and C, \vere iııcreased sigııifıcantly whetı compared t o Ramadan (p<0.001). The highest increase was obseı-ved in thefat consumption, with an increase o f 73.5%. Energy and carbohydrate iııtakes were increased by 58.8% and 57.4% respectively.
