Abstract

Hyperlipoproteinaemias are classified in five types. They may be primary (genetically transmitted) or secondary to some other diseases (eg. diabetes, renal disease and hypothyroidism). Generally hyperlipoproteinaemias causes atherosclerosis. Disease is treated in many ways. In some cases drug treatment and sometimes drug and dietary treatment together are effective. In the dietary treatment of Type I hyperlipoproteinaemia medium-chain triglycerides are helpful and effective in palatability and acceptability of diets. MCT’s do not form chylomicrons.
