Favısm

Abstract

In this review the symptoms of favism caused by the consumption of faba bean (Vicia faba) is deseribed. The topics such as geographic, seasonal, age and sex distribution of favism and the relationship between favism and glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency are summarized. Recent research on identification of a suitable model animal for favism studies is also reviewed.
