Abstract

Total Enteral Nutrition is a supportive method used in the treatment of patient in whom the enteral cannot be used for long periods. In our study we presented 22 cases in T.Y.l.H. between May-November in 1990. 13 males, 9 females with malnutrition aged 17-85 (mean 44.3 ± 18). TEN was used betvveen 5 to 20 days. Enteral nutrition produced profound increase in the circulating concentrations of prealbumin (12.4 ± 0.5,23.6 ± 0.1 mg/100 mL, p < 0.01). Albumin also increased significantly (3.0 ± 0.8, 3.3 ± 0.7, p < 0.05). There was small increase in total protein but did not change significantly (p > 0.05).
