The ability of pregnant and nonpregnant women to discriminate different concentrations of salt and sucrose solutions, and their preference for the solutions, were assessed. Result of test with salt solutions shovved that pregnant women were significantly less able to correctly identify concentration. Differences (p<0.05) and preferred significantly stronger solutions than did nonpregnant women it has been suggested that, preference for stronger salt solutions may be related to the increased need for sodium in pregnancy.
