A Study on Nutritional Habits and Health Status Of The Elderly Living at Nursing Home and Old Age Asylum in Ankara Province

Abstract

This study was carried out on the total o f 124 subjects (59 men, 69 women) between the ages o f 50-98 years, living in Ankara Keçiören Nursing Home, Beypazarı Nursing Home and Ümitköy Old Age Asylum with the purpose o f determining their general health status and nutritional habits. According to the results, 66.10% o f the metı and 61.54% o f the women were illiterate. According to BMI 50.77% o f the vvomen and 57.63% of the men had normal body weight. Majority (98.31%) of the men and (92.31%) o f the women ate three times a dav. Tea and ayran (diluted yoğurt) were the most preferred drinks. 17.75% o f the subjects had no health problems while 16.13% had hypertension, 12.90% had hypertension+rheumatoid artritis and 12.10% had diabetes mellitus. Salt fre e diet related to hypertension was the most fulfilled diet by the research subjects.
