Abstract

The aims o f the present study are to reconstruct of Standard valııes of sitting height for Turkish children and to investigate the effects of socioeconomic factors on body proportion. Two data of sets were usedfor this purpose: the first investigation was made by Saatçioğlu and comprise 7-11 years, and the secotıd research was made by Duyar and measured children aged between 12 and 17 years. The samples ofbotlı studies based on upper socioeconomic elasses and derived from seleeted model cities, representing seven geographical regions ofTurkey. The percentiles of sitting height ofthese studies smoothed by 4th degree of polynomials. In the secotıd stage, the values of sitting height / stature ratio were calculated and compared with the data of the middle and lower socioeconomic strata. The results indicate that socioeconomic factors affect the body proportiotıs. In other words, the relative leg length is longer in the higher socioeconomic strata than the lower social elasses.
