A Prospectıve Study On Breastfeedıng, Dıarrhoea, Acute Respıratory Infectıons And Growth In 0-36 Months Age Group

This prospective study was carried out on 366 children aged 0-36 months in the İzmit city center o f the Province of Kocaeli. Data was collected by applying a questionnaire to mothers at montly house visits. Relations between growth o f the child, breastfeeding, diarrhoea, and acute respiratory infection (ARI) were measured. Time and reasons for the termination o f breastfeeding were evaluated.hi 4-6 months age group who were not bi east feedg, the relative risk of diarrhoea was 1.3 times and the relative risk of ARI was 1.4 times higher than those who were still breastfed. The relative risk of ARI in children who were still breastfed at 25-36 months was 1.4 times higher. Similar relations were not found to be statistically higher in other age groups.
