Determination of the Factors Effecting Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Consumption

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the factors effecting fresh fruit and vegetable consumption o f 200 students (boy 17, gir Is 183), aged 19-24 year s old. The most important factor effecting the preference was the taste of the foods and it effected the frecjuency o f consumption. Also, it was found t hat the seasonal variations had an effect on fruit and vegetable consumption. During December, March and Juııe, mean (± Sx) fruit and vegetable consumptions w er e found 444.1 ± 17.2, 351.5 ± 15.7, 596 ±29.1 grcınıs, respectively (p< 0.05). Althoııgh the students had given nutrition education, during the same moııths the perceııtages o f consumptions below 400 granıs were found 40.4%, 73.7%, 28.3%, respectively. İt can be concluded that, efficieııt nutrition plan and programmes, according to factors effecting fruit and vegetable consumption should be taken irıto consideration by dietitians.
