Food aid from past to present and the food aid policies pursued by countries

Abstract

The study is composed of fıve parts. In the fırst part, fo o d aid policies pursued and food aid given by the countries and organizations from past to present had been studied. The scope of the food aid programs started in these countrises have shown variations till today. In the second part, basic purposes o f fo o d aid and causes affecting present food gap situation have been mentioned. Food aid can be given fo r humanistic and benefıcial purposes, and in extraordinary cases faced by the countries as war or natural disasters. In addition to that, International corporations have been established and contracts have been signed to provide ejfectiveness in food aid activities and to arrange the food aid flow. The role o f these corporations has been studied in the third part. In the fourth part, food aid policies followed in country basis have been investigated. General purpose of these policies is to provide development and increase productivity in receiving countries. In the last part of the study, Turkey's food security policy has been mentioned and possible proposals for strenghtening the food security has been made. In addition, the food aid received and given by Turkey has also been reflected to the study.
