The evaluation of the nutrition and the physical activity Ievels of the elderly people ( 65 years old) living in different socio-economic Ievels

The study was carried out to evaluate the nutritional status and physical activity Ievels o f the elderly (>65 years old) living in three different socio-economic Ievels. The intake o f the nutrients was found similar to the RDA, parallel to the increase o f the socio-economic Ievels. The average intake o f the protein different socio-economic (low, medium, high) level (47.6±28.7, 50.3+24.8, 50.9±24.8 g/d) (p< 0.05), fa t Ievels (47.6±28.7, 4 9 .1±22.2, 50.4±21.9 g/d) (p< 0.05) were increasing while average intake o f the carbohydrate Ievels (173.9±79.5, 164.1±63.2, 158.0±62.4 g/d) (p< 0.05) were decreasing, according to the increase o f the socio- economic Ievels. The average intake o f the vitamine A (p< 0.05), vitamine B2 (p< 0.05), vitamine C (p< 0.05), calcium (p< 0.05), iron (p< 0.05) and zinc (p< 0.05) were increasing, parallel to the increase o f the socioeconomic Ievels and the amount were found inadequate. The average intake o f the fiber was also found inadequate (15 g/d) in ali o f the groups. The average energy intake (1333±605, 1319±461, 1317±471 kcal/d) (p< 0.05) and total energy expenditure (TEE) (2074±509, 1955±431, 1954±397 kcal/d) (p< 0.05) were decreasing according to the socio-economic Ievels. These results were related to the education Ievels, economical status and p h y s ica l conditions. "IValking" was frequently done as a regularphysical activity, and the ratio o f the elderly people was decreasing according to the socio-economic Ievels.
