Today, rapid increase in the prevalence o f obesity, combined with a lack o f effective treatment methods has fueled demand fo r alternative dietary approaches. Emerging evidence from clinical and epidemiologic trials indicate that higherprotein diets increase weight loss and decrease risk o f cardiovascular disease. The anorexic effect o f protein may contribute to the weight loss produced by lower carbohydrates diets. Evidence suggests that it may be benefıcial to replace refıned carbohydrates with protein sources low in fat especially saturated fat.
