Abstract

Since tea, the leaves o f a plant known as Camelia sinensis, is the second most consumed beverage following water all over the world, the effects of tea consumption on health are important for public health. In recent studies, it has been reported that tea consumption has a potential to prevent chronic diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disorders, diabetes and obesity. The potential beneficial effects o f tea on health have been mostly associated with its polyphenols content (catechins, quercetin, kamferol, mirisetin).
