Infants at high risk for iodine deficiency because o f their requirements for iodine per kg o f body weight for iodine are much higher than at any other time in life cycle. Iodine deficiency during infancy irreversibly impair development. In various countries including our country where iodized salt programs supply sufficient iodine to older children and adult population; weaning infants particularly those not receiving iodine containing infant formulas may be at risk o f iodine deficiency.
