Abstract

Food labelling is to provide detailed information about the product. Nutritional labelling is to give detailed information about the nutrient content of a food product. Nutrient profiling is defined as “the science of categorising foods according to their nutritional composition” and used as the scientific basis of nutritional labelling, health claims, or nutritional education and help consumers to make healthy and on purpose food choices, etc. Nutrient profiling models are based on sets of scientific rules, scores or thresholds applied to the nutritional composition of foods. Finally, developing a nutrient profiling scheme would be a useful approach for determining the healthy diet and the meal pattern served in food service systems, and evaluation of menus, further it would be useful for ensuring legal regulations and for the improvement and reformulations, innovation of foods in food industry.
