Cognitive health problems exert a significant burden on both individuals and society, and these problems are expected to gradually increase over the years as world conditions change. It is therefore extremely important to protect, improve and treat cognitive health. At this point, changes in diet for cognitive health come to the fore and the importance of the Mediterranean diet, which has been shown to have many health benefits is emphasized. The cognitive performance-enhancing effect of the Mediterranean diet is now used to prevent and treat numerous health problems, particularly metabolic, cardiovascular diseases and cancers. Possible mechanisms for the effect of the Mediterranean diet on cognitive health is associated with the content of antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, olive oil, vitamin B group and fiber in the Mediterranean diet. These elements can influence cognitive health at different levels and in different ways. Therefore, following a Mediterranean diet throughout life, starting in the early stages of life, can help to protect brain health and cognitive function.
