Abstract

Coexistence of type 1 diabetes and celiac disease is frequently encountered in pediatrics. In the medical nutrition therapy of this pattern, carbohydrate counting and gluten-free diet are recommended. Furthermore, the addition of food allergies to these diseases makes medical nutrition therapy even more difficult. To continue growth and development and to provide a good metabolic control, a nutrition program in which gluten- and allergen-containing foods are eliminated and the carbohydrate counting model is applied should be planned by dietitians. In this article, a pediatric case with the coexistence of type 1 diabetes, celiac disease and food allergy is presented.
