Abstract

An increase in adipose tissue that causes disease is defined as obesity. Obesity is one of the most common health problems in the world and in our country. Bariatric surgery is the most effective method in the treatment of morbid obesity and related metabolic complications. The principles of medical nutrition therapy in the postoperative period are defined in the guidelines. The fluid intake of patients may be insufficient due to the principle of consuming solid and liquid foods at different time periods, which is applied in all types of operations, and the low amount of food consumed. It is important to monitor nutritional status, to prevent nutrient deficiencies and to regain body weight, and to manage side symptoms that may develop due to the operation. In addition carefully applying the protocols in patient follow-up, medical nutrition programs planned at appropriate times to change nutritional behaviors without blaming, allowing the patient to express herself, are important to maintain health, prevent regaining the lost body weight and provide hydration. In this article, the results of dehydration, medical nutrition therapy and follow-up in a patient who had undergone sleeve gastrectomy with the diagnosis of many diseases before the operation were discussed.
