Medical Nutrition Therapy of Severe Hyperlipidemia in a Case with Congenital Nephrotic Syndrome

Congenital nephrotic syndrome (CNS) is a disease with severe proteinuria, hypoalbuminemia, hyperlipidemia and edema. This condition leads to protein malnutrition, growth- development retardation, immune system inhibition and later end stage renal kidney disease. Hyperlipidemia secondary to proteinuria, as the unique risk factor for the cardiovascular disease has prognostic value. Thus, it has life worthy to treat hyperlipidemia either via diet/medical support or lipid apheresis. In this report, it has been emphasized that the importance of diet in the treatment of a case with CNS having severe hyperlipidemia which significantly reduced by medical nutrition therapy without apheresis.
