Abstract

Aim: It is aimed to adapt the Child Food Refusal Scale (CFRS), which is used to measure food rejection between the ages of 2-7, to Turkish by making a validity and reliability study.

Subjects and Methods: This study was carried out with 195 individuals with children between the ages of 2-7 on the online platform between March-May 2021. The scale was adapted into Turkish using the translate-reverse method. The original of the scale includes 11 items consisting of 2 sub-dimensions. Explanatory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis were performed for validity analysis, and fit indices were evaluated. Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficient was used for reliability analysis. Statistical analyses were performed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) 16.0 and AMOS 24.0. Significance level was accepted as p<0.05.

Results: The CFRS-5 (P10) item was removed from the scale because it was explained by two separate dimensions and the difference between factor loading values was less than 0.10. For the final scale with 10 items and 2 sub-dimensions, it was determined that the fit indices were at an acceptable level, the internal consistency was quite reliable for the selectivity sub-dimension, and it was highly reliable for the neophobia sub-dimension and the total scale. The mean score of the children’s food refusal scale was found to be 30.45±6.41.

Conclusion: It has been determined that the Turkish version of the Child Food Refusal Scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool to measure food rejection.
