Abstract

Nuts are a good source of monounsaturated fatty acids and non-lipid constituents, n-3 fatty acids, magnesium, copper, potasium, vitamin E, folic acid, selenium, phenolic compounds and fibre. Nuts have beneficial health effects and are considered an important component of a healthy diet. This article reviews the nutrient composition and health effects of often consumed nuts; pistachios, almond, Brazil nut, walnut, peanut, hazelnut, kaju, macadamia, pecan and pine nut.
